DHI Hair Transplant
DHI Hair Transplant
The DHI hair transplant technique is the most preferred hair transplant method in recent years and has become increasingly popular with natural results. What does DHI mean and how are DHI hair transplants done? Read on for information about the DHI hair transplant method…
Information About the DHI Hair Transplant Method
It is known as the unshaved hair transplant. Although it differs from the FUE technique, as a method, it is basically similar to it. Already in many scientific publications, the FUE technique is defined as the way of implantation. This method was first applied at Kyungpook National University in Korea. The fact that it gives good results for fine hair has caused experts working in the field of hair transplant to be interested in this technique. Before explaining this technique, which stands for Direct Hair Implantation, let’s talk about current hair transplant techniques.
Current Hair Transplant Techniques
Today, the popular hair transplant methods that are applied can be listed as follows:
FUT: Follicular Unit Transplantation
FUE: Follicular Unit Extraction
DHI: Direct Hair Implantation
Sapphire Perkutan
How is Hair Transplant Done with the DHI technique?
Prior to DHI, hair analysis is performed to make clear calculations about the structure of the hair strands, hair loss potential, hair density of the donor area and the number of grafts that can be transplanted. Then the operation decision is made accordingly.
The first procedure is to perform local anesthesia to the donor site. In this way, the nape of the neck is anesthetized. Then, one by one hair follicles are removed. During this process, a small amount of tissue is left around the roots and then removed with the help of micromotor without any damage.
In this hair transplant operation performed with the Choi implanter pen, hair follicles are placed one by one in the pen. Then the correct angle is given to the follicles to settle in the hair roots. Precisely at this point is a very laborious process. DHI technique is a process that requires expertise and experience.
In the DHI hair transplant process, 2 to 6 Choi pens are used, with an average of 15-16 Choi tips. The ends of Choi implanter pens can be of different sizes. The factor determining this is the person’s hair follicles and the thickness of the follicle structure.
As I mentioned above, DHI, the Direct Hair Implantation technique, is the process of removing the roots with special needles made for DHI from the donor area (the region where the hair is taken) and placing it in the area to be planted with the same needle within 1-2 minutes. When it is defined in this manner hair transplant with FUE technique come to mind. However, these two methods differ at some points.
- Unlike the FUE technique, the DHI Hair transplant technique can be used for planting without shaving.
- The most important difference of the DHI technique from FUE is that the implant isperformed without opening channels.
- The hair follicles are transported to the desired area immediately after removal. This is an important difference that minimizes cell death.
- DHI technique is more suitable for planting in small areas.
The DHI hair transplant technique has some advantages making it preferable. For example, when the hair follicles spend less time outside the tissue, the losses are less. In other words, the survival rate of hair follicles is higher. In addition, the area of surgical incisions is much smaller. This gives the patient the advantage of returning to daily life much faster. In the area where the planting is done, scabbing is less and passes away in less time. Most importantly, the transplanted new hair follicles begin to grow faster. The reason for this is that the cell division continues from where it left off as the hair follicles are planted without a delay. There is a more flexible working opportunity of the hairline and frequency of the forehead hairs when the DHI technique is used. This allows for a very natural looking result, especially in the forehead region.
Of course, DHI hair transplants have some negative sides and we can explain them as follows:
What are the Disadvantages of the DHI Hair Transplantation?
- Requires more expertise than others.
- More expensive materials are used.
- It is a more expensive operation.
- Takes longer time.
If you are going to have hair transplant with the DHI Technique, you should know the following detail: Sowing in a haired area means that the sowing area is very narrow and if the cultivator does not have enough experience, the Choi tips can damageother hair follicles while working in this narrow area.
About DHI Needles Used in Hair Transplantations
I explained that the biggest difference of the technique was the tip of the needles used. Now, I would like to talk a bit about the property of these needles. The DHI hair transplant method also referred to as the Choi method in literature. The reason for this is the name of the cylindrical and pointed needles used is the Choi needle. The Choi needle is in the form of a channel and the hair is spread along the channel and settles in the needle. The implanter pen used today has a thickness of 0.64 mm to 1.0 mm wide. Local anesthesia is performed before the procedure.
After the Hair Transplant with the DHI Technique
Scabbing is less common after the DHI hair transplant. In addition, the said scabbing passes away more quickly than other hair transplant techniques. 10-15 days after the procedure, a period called “shock shedding” is lived. After about 3 months, new hairs start to grow. After seven months, the hairs grow to a great extent and a natural look appears. All or almost all of the transplanted hairs grow after one year. In other words, the final result after the DHI hair transplant is seen in the 12th month.
The DHI technique is successful for a life guaranteed hair transplant without the use of scalpels or stitches and drilling holes in the scalp.
